Its primary function is to extend and straighten the thumb at the joint near its base, known as the carpometacarpal joint. This muscle originates from the back part of the ulna, one of the two bones in the forearm, and the interosseous membrane, which is a thin, fibrous sheet connecting the ulna and the radius (the other bone in the forearm).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After originating, the Extensor Pollicis Longus runs along the back of the forearm, passing through a specific pathway at the wrist called the third compartment of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sixpackabs.eu\/en\/what-are-the-dorsal-muscles\/\">dorsal<\/a> wrist.
